We recently completed a remarkable full-home transformation in Boise’s North End historic district, and the results are both timeless and modern — the perfect balance for a home in this iconic neighborhood.
The homeowners had lived in the house for a few years and knew it was time to make some much-needed updates. Like many homes in the area, it had never been fully upgraded, and the exterior was weather-worn with outdated stucco and roofing.
Because it’s in a historic district, the remodel had to meet strict guidelines to preserve the home’s character. For example, we couldn’t change the view from the street, and even replacing windows came with a few hurdles from the city.

We re-weatherproofed the entire exterior while keeping its original charm, carefully replacing windows and siding to maintain the historic look. On the inside, however, it was a completely different story — the main floor was gutted, opening up the layout and engineering new beams to support the three-story structure. It now looks and feels like a beautifully updated 1910-era home.

The team relocated the staircase to make the basement more accessible and the main area more livable, upgraded the air, electrical, and plumbing systems in the house, and kept original features like the fireplace and some flooring to preserve its character. With over a million dollars invested and six months of detailed work, this home is now ready for the next century while respecting its past.

If you’re in the North End historic district of Boise and dreaming of a remodel but worried about preserving your home’s history, this project is proof that you can have the best of both worlds — a modern, functional interior with the historic curb appeal intact.
