With a new year comes new home design and renovation trends, and many things to look forward to. Boise, Garden City, Eagle, Meridian, and the surrounding areas in Idaho’s beautiful Treasure Valley are growing fast. As the demand for home remodeling contractors continues to soar, we’re proud to rank as one of the very best Design + Build firms in Idaho. We’re ready and excited for what this next year will hold, so we decided to kick off 2021 with some concepts and trends that homeowners can plan for.

Looking to the Future

What an unparalleled year 2020 was. It taught us a lot, made us appreciate more, showed us how strong we can be, and forced us to consider the things that are most important to us in our lives. As the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines roll out and we begin to have hope for an end to the pandemic in sight, we are looking to the future with optimism. Looking back, it can feel that precious time and important parts of our lives were stolen from us. When looking ahead, though, we can envision a future full of people we love under the same roof.

Now is the time to put the wheels in motion for the kitchen remodel you’ve been dreaming about where you can host the best holiday gatherings, a luxurious outdoor living sanctuary to enjoy cocktails and dinner with loved ones on warm summer nights, or a guest room addition where family and friends know they are welcome. For 2021 we are planning ahead, so when special times with the people in our lives come along, we can live in the moment with gratitude.

Uplifting, Warm, and Earthy Tones

We are thrilled about the color trends we’ll be seeing in 2021, and hope these beautiful hues invoke a sense of revival for you the way they have for us. Whether it’s design, fashion, culture, or even what may seem like minor aspects of daily life, colors and the ways we use them shape our world and our mood, while human needs, desires, and events collectively initiate future trends. It’s an interesting pas de deux.

As one of the most popular and highly anticipated color of the year announcements, Pantone declared Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray as their colors for 2021. Symbolizing valor and steadfastness paired with warmth and positive spirit, the meaning behind Pantone’s color selections is a message that likely resonates with us all. Another one of our favorites, Sherwin-Williams, shared Urbane Bronze as their color of the year. A perfect example of a color trend we’re happy to see: grounding and earthy tones that bring a sense of peace and calmness. And with even more colors to love, Benjamin Moore announced Aegean Teal as their 2021 color, along with their mindfully curated color palette, strengthening our color trend expectations for balanced, tranquil, yet warmly vivacious tones.

New Perspectives

With so many people spending time at home in the last year like never before, most of us have developed a new perspective of our living spaces. Our lifestyles have changed, and in return our priorities regarding our homes have shifted. While open floorplans remain popular for many reasons, we are also seeing more of a demand for spaces that can help us physically and mentally compartmentalize the many aspects of our lives.

Whether it’s a home gym to help with staying active and (somewhat) sane, an office design that facilitates productivity and clarity, an exterior living space that inspires bliss, or a bedroom sanctuary that makes us feel at peace, we’re confident about the creative ways that we can utilize different spaces in the home with some fresh perspective.

Letting the Light Shine

After a year that was dark in a lot of ways, it’s safe to say we could all use some brightening up in our lives! Finding the best lighting for Zoom calls from your home office, renovating your living space to bask in more natural light throughout the day, and adding stylish lamps and light fixtures to your home are some great ways to bring more personality and flare to your life while brightening up your space. Whether you’re looking at life in a new light, or literally changing the lighting in your home, the right lighting can make all the difference.

Being Bold and Intentional

We’re saying goodbye to cold industrial designs, beige, and minimalism that lacks personality. We’re not abandoning you, Marie Kondo, hear us out! Being intentional with our actions, functional with our designs, and removing the clutter that doesn’t serve our bodies, minds, and homes are thoughtful choices that are as important as ever, but it doesn’t have to be boring. Minimalistic architecture and design have been exceedingly popular, but spending a lot of time at home can quickly make this style become a bore. For 2021, we’re seeing a rise in popularity for cheerful and calming colors, getting bold and creative with textures and patterns, eclectic trends that incorporate a variety of comforting old-world designs paired with modern day amenities, all while bringing us peace and being highly functional and durable for our day to day lives. This is the year to express yourself.
